Water stains on your ceilings or attic rafters. Yellow or brownish rings on interior ceilings are a classic sign of a roof leak. Head up to your attic with a flashlight and look for staining, mold, or daylight coming through the decking.
Sagging areas in the attic ceiling. This often indicates that moisture has been sitting long enough to affect the structural decking underneath. This needs immediate attention.
Higher-than-usual energy bills. If your attic isn’t ventilating properly because your roof system is failing, your HVAC system works harder. A spike in cooling costs during spring and summer can sometimes trace back to the roof.
Walk Around Your Home and Look Up

Granules in your gutters. When asphalt shingles age, they shed the granule coating that protects them from UV rays. If your gutters are full of gritty, sand-like material, your shingles are in their end stage.
Curling or cupping shingles. Shingles that curl upward at the edges (cupping) or curl downward in the middle (clawing) are no longer lying flat against your roof - meaning they’re no longer protecting it properly.
Sagging roofline. A roof that dips or has a wave to it when viewed from the street is a structural warning sign. This is never just cosmetic.
